When Rolls met Royce...
A meeting on May 4, 1904 at the Midland Hotel in Manchester created probably the most prestigious automobile brand in history. After being introduced to each other by a mutual friend, aristocratic Charles Stewart Rolls and working class engineer Frederick Henry Royce went on to form an historic partnership with the first Rolls-Royce car being produced later that year. This wall sculpture in the Midland Hotel's entrance lobby commemorates the famous occasion. The Midland Hotel is a 400-bedroom grand hotel at the junction of Peter Street and Lower Mosley Street and was opened in September 1903.
