Zoom makes things visible

Modern smartphones, and other things with a camera, very often have a built-in zoom. The advertising suggests usually, that this will help visualise things that are far away from us.
It is a fact that this zoom enlarges the objects we see very small in real. My smartphone for instance has a 10x zoom. Between 5x and 10x is all digital, so just a calculation of what the objects might look like in large.
But it is a fiction to believe (or suggest) that this digital zoom is improving the quality, or even leaving the quality at the same level. Actually, the quality is lost, the more digital zoom you use.

The roe deer on this blip were about 1km away. I could somehow recognise them as being roe deer, and the blip confirms it. But the quality of the picture is terrible.
