Surprise
In December, it will be 20 years since we bought our house. While we didn't use Ottobeuren regularly for some time as it was in the opposite direction to our 'normal' daily commute route to Munich, when we first got our dog, Flash, in 2003, we gradually started to use the area around town for dog walking.
One of the favourites was a circular route from the edge of town over fields and along a river all part of a re-naturalisation project and which went to the Schickling estate. The estate belongs to the family of an artist who had built it up after WWII to be a bit of a cultural centre. He himself was a glass painter with lots of work in churches around the world. There are weekly guided tours of the buildings and his work as well as quite a few classical music concerts. I have never been on the tour or to a concert, but limited to walking through the estate past the various buildings.
For some reason today, I decided to look behind the main building and was astonished to find a lovely set of even more buildings. The 'house- master' - janitor who I know well appeared for a quick chat, but it was getting late, and I needed to get to the supermarket before closing time. So didn't get to learn what the buildings all are. In the extra a closer up on one which I think was probably the main living house - the other large glass buildings the concert & display rooms.
