Cheers, Auld Yin!
A working birthday for Himself today had us breakfasting briskly rather than lounging around while he opened presents and cards, though there was a little time ... And the moment I stuck my nose in the door of the church there were people telling me it was his birthday (!) and wanting to sing "Happy Birthday..." as is the custom in this crazy congregation. Who was going to play for the singing? In the end the Lay Reader taking the service today simply asked him to play it for himself and everyone sang and clapped - and then we got on with the service. Rather jolly, really.
The celebrations were more apparent at lunchtime, when we sampled some of the delights of the hamper sent from Inverawe Smokehouse by #1 son and family. A rather fine Prosecco and smoked salmon terrine on oatcakes felt very decadent, though there was some tea after just to redress the balance ... and then we felt we simply had to walk it off. Another walk in the dusk, back up to church to measure the organ music stand for lights, and back down under the same little moon - only slightly larger - that we're all currently gazing at.
Dinner saw us polish off more Prosecco, followed by some red wine with our venison and oven vegetables, followed by a little pudding wine with a mince pie and brandy butter. It's a hard life, but you really have to try to finish off the Christmas goodies, don't you?
Phone calls from the family plus a lovely surprise call from Himself's best man rounded it all off - I think it was a good effort for a working day!
