Peel Park Kirkintilloch

This is a new addition to Peel Park, Kirkintilloch.  The line of the Antonine Wall, which was for a brief period the north-western frontier of the Roman Empire, passed through Peel Park.
The initials SPQR stood for "Senatus Populusque Romanus" .  It signified the entity of the Roman state by referencing its two componant parts:  Rome's Senate and her people. These initials appeared on triumphal arches, the altars and coins of Rome.
