Barnack Wall

By the time I set out for my afternoon walk, the sunshine had gone. The countryside is generally looking rather drab now, but our local stone walls are always interesting, so I headed to Barnack where the boundary wall of Walcot Estate has an assemblage of characteristic lichens including the rather local Arthonia calcarea, whose fruiting bodies remind me of a cluster of small black spiders.

This evening we finally took down the Christmas tree and most of the decorations, though have kept lots of fairy lights to brighten up the long, dark evenings!
