Playing life by ear.

Norba

We were overtaken on our way up to the top of Norba by a group of paragliders, carrying all their gear.
The cloudy  weather with very  little breeze was not perfect for their sport but when they reached their launching area, there was a great deal of exited laughter going on and a great atmosphere. A little girl, obviously used to these outings, kept her small self busy, as did a dog.
It took me a while to notice the numerous sheep, camouflaged against the rocks and kept in check by two white maremma sheep dogs, without a shepherd.
Once the sheep were settled and  grazing,  one of the sheep dogs visited the human group, first having a calm exchange with the child followed by a visit to the human's dog which was a bit more frightening for everyone but the sheep dogs were much too professional to make a fuss about such a silly animal.
The second sheep dog joined the first and they took a sedate walk around the area, just stopping for the occassional pee on the rocks to underline the hierarchy rules, probably  for the benefit of the human's dog.
As the breeze picke up slightly, one by one paragliders ran off the side of the mountain. I do envy them although I wouldn''t have the nerve to do it myself, even in tandem with an expert.
Happily, as far as I know, the chap who stood for a long time, looking out across the plains, to the sea, didn't jump off the side of the mountain. He gave me the creeps with his strange clothing, as if he had stepped out of a historical novel.
Note the pre-roman ruins of Norba and stepping stones across a side road that would have allowed pedestrians to cross the street and charriots to pass through the gaps.
One of my sons is driving me nuts because he refuses to be vaccinated.
Apart  from that and the arthistis in my right knee, severly protruding disks in my lower back and who knows what going on in my one remaining  original hip, all is well.
I forgot to mention that the scruffy lakes are next to the very famous Ninfa Gardens. I think that an extension of the gardens s being planned.
