Life through the lens...

Winter walks

Inspired by the Winter Walks programme on TV we decided to do our own winter walk today.
Well it was just too glorious a day to stay at home.
We both had the same idea to go to Linton Falls near Grassington.
We parked the car at the small near by car park. Well worth the £4.80 for a full day, and there are also some very clean toilets, and would you believe it now an electric car charger!
As soon as we got out of the car we could hear the roar of the water, which gradually got louder and louder as we walked towards the bridge.
What a wonderful sight, and especially as you walk over the bridge with the water tumbling over the rocks beneath.

Our walk was along the river bank to Grass Woods and then across the fields up to Grassington.
As we were turning away from the river I noticed a sheep ahead of us, all on its own by an old dry stone wall.
Taking a photo I realised it was caught up in some barbed wire. ( see extra photo )
So went closer, climbed over a five bar gate, and talking to it as I approached, to calm it down, realised it was caught with one wire over it’s back and round it’s head, and another underneath between it’s legs.
I managed to free its body, and front legs, but not the back legs. Just as I was thinking I would have to leave it, a young man on a quad bike appeared over the hill. I waved frantically and he came over. Said he was looking for a lost sheep as he had counted them and one was missing.
So between us we managed to free it and off it went up the field. None the worse for it’s ordeal.
He was very grateful for my concern and help.
I felt like I was on the set of All Creatures Great and Small which is actually filmed in Grassington!

On reaching the village we had an excellent lunch at a little cafe called The Retreat. ( see collage) Noticed a lovely display of walking sticks outside Robert Bunneys.

Back at the car we enjoyed a slice of Christmas cake and another coffee, before setting off back home.
The sun still shining.

Certainly a day to remember, for more than one reason.
