Sun and Submarines

The last days of my Christmas break and the sun is shining!  We took a trip out to Helensburgh where it was very cold, but very pretty.  For once we didn't have a plan so just wandered up the seafront to Rhu and back again.  We made a group of Wigeons run away as I got too close with the camera, and tried to make some friends with some rooks along the way.

The blip is taken from the tiny spit of land which leads to the small lighthouse off Rhu beach. I'm not sure if the peaks are the Arrochar Alps or their more southerly cousins (whatever they are), but they were looking pretty spectacular.  We weren't sure what the buildings were (P said they looked like Mediterrean hotels) so took a scenic drive home to find out.  Turns out it's the navy base at Faslane where Trident lives.  Didn't see any submarines, did see some scary signs saying that drones weren't allowed -though nothing about blips.  Strange contrast of the stunning scenery and placement of things that could ruin all stunning scenery for good in close proximity.  Must be a nice place to be stationed though. Also drove past the Faslane Peace camp who are close to the southern end of the base on a permanent protest.  The residents there looked colourful but also super cold on a day like today.

Going to have to treat myself to some Harvey's maps and have an exlpore of the Arrochar's, think we'll steer well clear of the military bases though.  And maybe on a day when the wind is less piercing.
