The Stewart Memorial Fountain

Glorious day for a stroll through Kelvingrove Park.

This fountain commemorates the opening of the water system bringing clean water from Loch Katrine to the city of Glasgow. Named after Lord Provost Robert Stewart, the driving force behind the scheme, it was erected in 1872 at a cost of £2,000. The images on the fountain are based on scenes from Sir Walter Scott's poem, The Lady of the Lake.
