G R 1937

A vase that came from my aunt's house The date marks the Coronation of George the VII on May12th 1937.
He was proclaimed king on December 11th 1936 the day after his brother  Edward VIII abdicated.
I'm not really a fan of the  monarchy,  but I think George VII must have wondered what he had got himself into over the next few years.
I do admire the Queen though, she is an amazing woman.
Mind you, the alternative to the monarchy doesn't bear thinking about.
