Pyramid art

I have been on trains for most of the day, so opportunities to blip (and to eat anything not resembling a snack) have been limited.

We packed last night, so that our bag-rustling wouldn't disturb anyone when we left early this morning. The hotel in Tokyo (or rather in the Tokyo suburbs) has tiny rooms and paper thin walls. That's the price we pay for a cheap stay in an expensive city.

TWO shinkansen today (and you know how much I love those bullet trains!) and that took us to Hakata station, near Fukuoka, right down in Kyushu. This is where Sarah lives, but she had to fly back as people who live here can't buy our rail pass and the shinkansen are really expensive. She had left Tokyo at 4am...

She had told us to take a local train from Hakata to Tempaizan. I had a bit of a wobbly moment when all the signs were in Japanese.. but with some help from a friendly stationmaster, we ended up at the right place. While waiting for Sarah, I took this photo. The tiles were on one side of a pyramid outside the station. The men look as though they are enjoying an onsen?

Everyone is tired tonight so we had an early dinner in the canteen and a quiet evening. Tomorrow... a tour of Fukuoka!
