A break in the clouds

We had a very quiet new years eve, just the two of us, we watched the fireworks from our lounge window.

2022 dawned wet and windy, but it did dry up a little after (an early) lunch, so we took a little walk round Strandshag bay, and back through Fitz Park.  For 5 minutes as we passed round Strandshag bay on Derwentwater, we were treated to the most incredible light show of sunbeams shining through a gap in heavy clouds. I've never seen so many people trying to photograph sunbeams before - all on their phones. I do think even with phone technology, they might struggle to get a result.

This was taken by using a 0.9 (3-stop) grad, and still bracketed 5-stops and HDR'd in Lightroom. The highlights still have detail, as the darkest photo was underexposed three stops from the metered reading. I shot many versions of this, but with the clouds moving, this was the only one that I could retain detail in the highlights.

A pleasing start to the year though.

Happy New year Blippers, and welcome to any of you who might be starting on your Blip journey today. It's a fabulous community, and I hope you all enjoy it as much as so many of us already do.
