Setting sun above Zell am See
New Year has been cancelled in Scotland again, due to the dreaded Covid omicron deviant, so instead I've joined N+B and family for a week's skiing in Austria, Zell am See. I've skied in Austria a few times before but this is my first visit to Zell am See and my first time skiing in about 3 years. Went to bed at 10 last night and got up at 4.30am this morning for a 7.20 flight from Dublin to Salzburg. Everything went OK, our covid booster certificates, signed yesterday by N+B's family GP in Ranelagh, got us in to the country and a taxi for 6 of us brought us from Salzburg airport to Zell am See in just over an hour. We were kitted out an on the slopes for 2.00pm, aided by that fact that N+B have been here before and know exactly where to go for things. Cold and cloudy lower down but we soon broke out into the sunshine as we went up to the top on various ski lifts and had a late lunch at the Schmittenhohe Bergstation (2000m). Then got a few easy runs in before they started closing the lifts at 4.00pm. Snow is OK, but icy in the shade and slushy in the sun, making it hard work.
Today's blip is a shot of the sunset as we came down from the top.
