The End of the After Eights
My Dear Princess and Dear Friends,
You can tell when you are reaching the end of the holiday season, because all the After Eight* packets are empty.
Fortunately, neither of our household are empty-packet-returners. That would be grounds for divorce.
2021 ended in traditional fashion, with Joshua coming to ours for the big roast dinner, plus a Lethal Weapon movie. We have been doing this for years now, and have finally got up to Lethal Weapon 4.
Which left us wondering what we are going to do NEXT year.
That took us up to 11pm. After that I found some old YouTube videos of Hogmanay celebrations past. Back in Scotland, we typically spent New Year's Eve with Caro's dad watching this.
He would always watch Aly Bain the fiddler from Shetland, who he had known as a boy. "Och, that bastard," Shetland Dad would complain. Then it would be back to Jackie Bird in the studio. "Oh god, the Old Scrag," Caro would say.
So that's what we did up to midnight. I yearned nostalgically for the streets of Edinburgh when they were shown, and Caro pointed out the Old Scrag.
I like traditions. Maybe we will start at Lethal Weapon 1 again next year.
ALSO.
HAPPY NEW YEAR.
S.
* Thank you Princess.
