Double Hulled Huddles On The Beach, Hastings
Since Christmas Day the weather here in the South East of England has been horrible. Very dull, very wet and blustery with it. The only saving grace has been that it has been unseasonably mild. Today we decided we had to get out of the house whatever the elements were going to throw at us. Luckily, it was a sparkling winter's day - no, of course it wasn't - it was very dull, pretty wet and blustery yet again. We decided to go to the seaside anyway. Hastings was our "resort" of choice.
When we got there we went straight to the Dolphin Inn for a pint and some lunch. It's a lovely cosy pub with friendly staff, good beer and lovely food. After that it was time to head to the beach to try and capture some images. The beach is a wonderfully atmospheric place where the fishing fleet sits on the shingle when not out plying it's trade so that's where all today's images are from. We noticed quite a few groups of people huddling together against the strong wind so I used some of them for scale in the main image. Apparently, Senlac refers to Senlac Hill which is the generally accepted location in which Harold Godwinson deployed his army for the Battle of Hastings on the 14th October 1066.
As we were leaving we spotted numerous families playing crazy golf even though the wind was by now strongly gusting and the light rain was almost horizontal. British fortitude at it's best!
Wishing all of you a Happy New Year and that 2022 will turn out to be far better than the year just gone. We all need that in buckets.
