Woodsford Castle

"What do I catch upon the night-wind, husband? -
What is it sounds in this house so eerily?
It seems to be a woman's voice: each little while I hear it,
And it much troubles me!"

Thomas Hardy wrote a poem about this house being haunted called A Sound in the Night’   @xtoph1 and family have rented the place the Landmark Trust as a Christmas base and we took Mum over there for lunch.  It’s not as huge as it looks and has been nicely done by the trust in quite a simple manner.  I quite like the mysterious black cowled figure in the picture, actually K’s girlfriend L doing up her puffer coat!

Started fairly early and did all the tests so it was good to know we were all negative, although we don’t have many tests left of course.

Arrived around midday and went for the loop of a walk alongside the full flowing river Frome which had a lovely bend and a beach where we imagined swimming in the summer.  Delicious lunch of festive leftovers and sat chatting in the big kitchen. S had made the main room cheerful with her lovely tree and lights.  The rain mainly held off but the countryside is fairly sodden.
