Syrup of Figs....

A lot of the medicines in our pharmacy are kept in tall, glass fronted cupboards, the handles of which have strips of Velcro threaded through them to make it less easy for customers children to access. Sometimes though, we forget to 'redo' the Velcro, leaving lengths of it dangling, like unloved socks on a washing line...

One of our customers today, was a tiny, wrinkled ball of a chap, wearing the most eye-catching wig I have ever seen. It was the texture of a 'welcome' mat, and almost peach in colour....if he was trying to make a statement, he was successful (the statement being, 'I'm a mad person')......

Somehow, in the short time it took the man to wander round the shop, the Devil of Pharmacy saw fit to make my strip of Velcro, and Mr Weetabix's 'syrup', come together in some sort of hellish marriage.

I didn't have the heart to tell him - and he left the premises with a black strip of tape dangling down the back of his head at a very jaunty angle. He looked like a member of the judiciary, whose legal wig had accidentally been put in the washing machine with some brightly coloured undies....
