Lighting up…

… like a Christmas tree. Though this is an actual Christmas tree, the WiFi thingy I blipped a couple of days ago also lit up like a Christmas tree when I plugged it into our boiler. Turns out I have a newer version of the boiler that has a totally different interface. Instead of the 5V it was expecting, the device received 24V. For those who are not into electronics: this translates into almost literally frying the components. A puff of smoke and one of the tiny LEDs on the board emitted a very bright light for a couple of seconds. Then the board was dead… Fortunately I only spent a couple of euros on that and the boiler has remained in working order.
