The Defender of the Realm
I've commented on these manly 4 by 4 vehicles before but today after hearing the rhetoric employed by David Cameron during his speech about Trident I couldn't help but wonder who actually buys them.
Car manufacturers spend millions developing new models. They then spend even more pounds marketing the vehicles.
This makes it all the more strange that there are so many cars on the roads with completely dreadful names. After all, why would you spend that much money on developing a new car and then give it a name which will put off 95 per cent of potential buyers?
The Skoda "Superb", Daihatsu "Applause", Subaru "Justy" and more recently the Kia "Provo" are all worthy of mention.
But why would anyone purchase, never mind drive around in a Landrover "Defender". I mean what are they defending? Are they doomsday preppies who feel threatened by the current situation in North Korea or simply would be off roaders who would go off road if there wasn't so much mud involved?
Answers on a postcard please.
