Jackie and the Horrible Family

Jackie and the Horrible Family is a pedagogic bi-lingual play put on by a traveling theatre group from Paris. The group came to Bourg St. Maurice to perform at the elementary school where my coordinator works, so I saw the play in the morning and spent the day in my coordinator's classroom doing English with her students. They play was really well done, with the main character speaking French and translating the English for the students and all the other characters spoke English. The play was interactive so the actors came down in the audience and spoke to the children, the children learned the songs, and repeated lots of their phrases. The children absolutely loved it; they participated loudlyenthusiastically, and understood the story very well. In this moment, the kids are all pointing to Jackie to warn her that Mr. Horrible is coming to catch her to have for his supper. Later in the day we had the children draw the characters from the show and paste speech bubbles to each drawing to do a sort of "who said what" game. It takes a long time for 8 year olds to glue and color, but they were very quick to know who said what!
