This & That

Pill Box.....

Today after work I drove to Patchetts Green, a hamlet in Hertfordshire between Aldenham & Letchmore Heath & only a couple of miles from where I live. The area is home to alms houses, Victorian cottages, several medieval buildings, the Bhaktivedanta Manor (donated to the Hare Krishna movement by George Harrison in 1973) & to a humble but very well preserved WW2 Pill Box!

I take every opportunity to drive through the country lanes of Patchetts Green often just to fleetingly pass by the Pill Box. It's only one of 5,000 left in the UK & I believe was originally built as a part of the London Stop Line Outer, a ring of fortifications around the capital. This one was probably strategically placed to defend Elstree Aerodrome a mile or so up the road.
