So, What Are You Reading?

My sister arrived this morning to stay for a few days. She made it here just before the freezing rain started, so we have not been out and about at all, but instead have been sitting by the fire all afternoon talking about books. We both like to read and are always interested in what the other is reading.. So here we are with pens in hand making notes for future reads. 

I have just started my next book club book Extraordinary Canadians by Peter Mansbridge, a now retired news anchor and am looking forward to some uplifting reading..to counteract the recent gory murder mystery I just finished! My sister is busy adding it, as well as Wilding by Isabella Tree, Once Upon a Wardrobe by Patti Callahan and Joyful  by Ingrid Fetell Lee, to her list...

My sister has just started reading Permanent Astonishment a memoir by Tomson Highway, one of Canada's most acclaimed indigenous writers and performers. I am intrigued by her account of his early childhood  - born in a snowbank on an island in the sub-Arctic? Who would not want to read that book? It is now on my list, as is the other book she brought with her..Comedian Rick Mercer's memoir Talking to Canadians..it will be good for lots of laughs..and who doesn't need more of those?

I have created a new Christmas tradition where I am allowed to treat myself to a new coffee table book for Christmas browsing..Last year it was Christmas at Highclere...as I had to cancel my visit there when Covid hit. This year, missing France so much, I indulged in Timeless Paris by artist and designer Marin Montagut who leads the reader through the "tucked-away ateliers, boutiques, and artisan workshops what have seemingly been there forever". At first perusal I can see that the delicious illustrations and colours will give me much joy! My sister is allowed to monopolize it whilst she is here, but it is the one book I own that she cannot take home with her! 

So, I think we have worn out that topic of conversation for now and will have to come  up with something different to do or talk about tomorrow! Fingers crossed for no more freezing rain.. an outing would be a nice change...
