Revisionist history...

When I was a kid and through my early drinking years the Dark House was simply a place to avoid. It had an intangible air of menace about it, partly due to the name and partly due to the appearance, which was indeed dark and forbidding. I haven't been past it for some years now and so was slightly disappointed to see that it's had a makeover. I'm sure as the Horse and Groom it's a perfectly pleasant boozer but it just looks a touch too bland and formulaic. At least a reminder of it's more shady heritage survives on the flank wall for the time being.
