Leaping Salmon
First run of the second week of our holiday. It was very hot and I didn’t go far, just over four miles, taking in the other side of the peninsula and a couple of times through the village. The views over the water to Sutherland were amazing.
We had no real plan for the day, but headed to Dornoch, last visited about 14 years ago. We had a lovely wander then headed to Loch Fleet with our picnic. I knew of somewhere to park, remembered from 14 years ago! We had our picnic overlooking Loch Fleet. The tide was coming in and we watched seals swimming, Such a lovely spot. Fourteen years ago we parked up here and read the papers, while a baby BB had a sleep. We then continued on our trip down memory lane to Lairg and back to the Falls of Shin. When we visited last the visitor centre was owned by Mohammed Al Fayed. I was pleased to note that it is now community owned – it was closed anyway.
We went down to the falls and watched salmon jumping, which never ceases to amaze me. After driving past the cottage we stayed in fourteen years ago which was near Bonar Bridge, we headed to beautiful Croick Church, which is infamous for its role in the Highland clearances.
It was then back home to enjoy the last of the sunshine from our garden and then later to watch the sunset form the beach.
I took a lot of pictures of leaping salmon - most were rubbish!
