Old Queenslander
We spent Christmas in Brisbane with my brother and sister-in-law. The phrase Old Queenslander might refer, my brother says, to people like him. But it also refers to the style of architecture in today's blip. An Old Queenslander house is elevated with lots of space underneath for air to circulate under the living areas on the first floor. This makes sense in a hot and humid sub-tropical climate. They usually have a prominent external staircase, a steeply pitched roof with one or more gables, and external verandahs.
This photo is taken in the Brisbane suburb of Wynnum, on the shores of Moreton Bay. Wikipedia has information on this style of architecture.
