SEARCH FOR FAMILY

Today was spent in search of the ancestors, first stop Bunessan and the Baptist Church. My 2nd Great Grandfather a crofter then teacher and he was the first Baptist Minister on Mull who established the Baptist church on the island. We visited the existing church then headed out to the ruins of the first stone built church then to the site where they were forced to meet in a cave as the local landlord persecuted this growing group of religious dissenters as it seemed to give common cause to the poorer tenants of his estate. I spent a few hours in the Ross of Mull heritage centre where the staff were very helpful and I had access to the amazing research library. We went out to Uisken and Ardalanish were most of my family were poor crofters and had as a bonus the most incredible beaches and views over to Jura,Islay Colonsay and you could just make out Ireland. An incredible day to be here with my dad and my own family was very special. I have uploaded a picture of a shed in Bunessan which I thought was my favourite pic of the day. I also got some nice pics of the local birdlife and a rather nasty looking Mink.
