Had a short day at work. Got home, did the laundry, exercised, made dinner for the wife before she got home, because I went out to see The Matrix: Resurrections! It opened on the 17th which was ahead of most of the world so I was PUMPED!

I really enjoyed the experience of the film, seeing it in IMAX format. The sound and picture quality were stellar and the sound levels were calibrated to the correct volume (most cinemas turn it down due to customer complaints or because of careless staff). It was really exciting to watch, even though the film didn’t land so well for the plot and fight sequences. It was pretty messy actually, combining a lot of elements from the previous three films in one way or another. However, it was tongue-in-cheek and I liked that it was self aware and took the piss out of itself (watch the Matrix Awakens and it makes it more sense).

Like most resurrections of franchises these days, they’re unnecessary. However, I really love the Matrix brand, style and feel so I relished diving into the themes and spectacle. Really happy to buy the merchandise after the picture. In Japan, the concession stand is next level with heaps of things to get, like mugs, key-rings, T-shirts, and film programs with heaps of information about the movie. Having worked at a cinema for several years and learning a bit about the costs and operations in Australia, seeing the way it works in Japan is really a joy.
