Ferry Across The Teign
Morning coffee at The Clipper in Shaldon for Ann and I then we caught the ferry to Teignmouth. The weather was still bright but cold and breezy, the crossing a little rough but its only a few minutes across the estuary. There has been a ferry across the River Teign for about a thousand years (though not this particular boat I suspect) and is a convenient crossing for pedestrians for although there is a road bridge it is a fair walk round from Shaldon to Teignmouth.
A little bit of essential shopping then lunch on a bench in the Triangle. After lunch we went to the Teignmouth & Shaldon Museum, a very interesting local knowledge establishment.
Later we went back on the ferry and walked up to the chalet via the coast path.
We went to The Smugglers, Dawlish for tea. They do a wonderful carvery including a vegetarian nut roast with a range of vegetables including cauliflower cheese, yorkshire pudding and veggie stuffing plus a whole range of others. One finishes the first course feeling well-stuffed, only Tom managed a desert, but then he's a growing 19 year old lad!
