Solstice Again
This is the last sunshine we are likely to see for a long time. A storm is headed this way, with rain turning to ice and snow the day after Christmas. I was happy to welcome the light as it bathed my 7-inch tree and 2-inch musical carousel that plays “The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.” I'm a great one for minimalism, and the children are used to that and only look forward to the little carousel and a bubble-light night light when they visit Baba's house.
All photographs are memento mori. To take a photograph is to participate in mortality, vulnerability, mutability. Precisely by slicing out this moment and freezing it, all photographs testify to time's relentless melt.
