Back in time
In the 4 years we've lived in the area, we've driven past the Clayburn Village Store a thousand times and never been in there. It always seems to be closed.
Well today, with both of us off work till January, we went past on the way to pick up a turkey and some other bits and pieces at the supermarket.
On the way back, I sensed that we would be stopping in. I was right.
A pleasant surprise awaited us, it was like taking a step back.
The boss was fascinated by the display of jams and preserves from Wilkin & Sons of Essex while enjoying the warmth from the real log fire (see the extras). After much deliberation, she chose a jar of Damson over all the others. "None of the supermarkets carry Damson", she advised.
The rest of the store was just as interesting for us, sweets, toffees, cream, biscuits, Xmas puds, and so much other stuff from the UK that we'd never seen in any other store here.
Many dollars later, we left, but I know that she'll be back there again. It also looks as though my diet plans may have to take a back seat for a while.
Ah well....
