Looking Back at The Roaches
A good forecast meant we made the effort to get out and about. We set off for the Roaches just outside Leek. We walked along the ridge to Roach End, and then continued a little further.
We then returned via Lud's Church. This is a deep chasm that was formed by a landslip. It has links to the poem "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight" and the Lollards.
This was the view looking back towards The Roaches ridge. We had lunch in the excellent Roaches Tearoom.
We were getting ready to go out this evening to the Trentham Light Trail when I got a call at about 5.30pm from my dad's carer. She couldn't find him at home.
So we went straight over to investigate. We rang his friends to see if he was visiting. We'd had a sighting in the local petrol station a couple of hours earlier and a friend said he was meant to be on his way to them. But no sign of him.
In the end we had to ring the police and report him missing. By the time we'd gone through all that and the police had arrived to go searching my other half had spotted him near a local pub. We rushed round there and went into the pub. He was there ordering himself a cup of coffee! He was only 10 minutes walk from home....?
Apparently he'd gone on a little trip to Hanley about 1.5 mile walk up a steep hill. We couldn't work out what he'd gone and he'd taken a little tumble too. Other than feeling a little cold he was fine and we were relieved. But he didn't quite realise how many people were worried about him and looking for him. It's hard to get angry with him but he just didn't seem to consider the danger he may have put himself in.
We returned home around 9.30pm, having missed our evening out, tired but relieved he was safe.
