The Narrow Road to the Deep North

I schlepped up the road again to the Pratomagno approach. This was taken at 1240m looking towards the heights of the PM that get to over 1500m (Ben Nevis is 1345m from memory).

Two hours of it, a steady grade up through chestnut and then the high beech woods. Very quiet as the sun sank behind the ridge. Just me and a pick up driving down from forestry work.

Saw the hare again in the same place.

The high panoramica road was unploughed, not surprisingly. The last curves on my ascent were icy and I took care going back down. Walking poles are great, ain’t they.

Meanwhile Omicron like a scythe. We just don’t know the John Barleycorn death count yet. Hopefully it will turn mild but as Neil ? Ferguson said: don’t be counting your chickens.

Behind the Alps we sit, mesmerised, waiting for the wave that will come.

UK:Covid passport with two vaccine doses and neg PCR or antigen 48hr prior to departure. Non vaxed can travel with negative test and five days quarantine.
