Dangerous Beauty

The Big White Dog and I noticed these Angel Trumpet Brugmansia, flowers while on our morning walk. Angel Trumpet is in the nightshade family and is native to South America. It's quite beautiful but I don't grow it in my yard because all parts of the plant are poisonous! They contain the alkaloids atropine, scopolamine, and hyoscyamine. (scary stuff!) Eating any part of the Angel Trumpet plant can cause hallucinations, paralysis, tachycardia, and memory loss. And eventually death for humans as well as other creatures, dogs and cats included. Enjoy this plant's beauty but just be cautious.
