Two books by Tove Jansson

My daughter put me onto The Summer Book, and I quickly fell in love with the writing of Tove Jansson. (Also the creator of The Moomins.) The novel is about a child and her grandmother, and their summer spent on a remote island in Finland. It is from the child’s point of view, but the grandmother also comes across as a character. The child is clearly Tove, and she seems to remember, somewhat effortlessly, what it was like to be a child. A Winter Book, is a collection of her short stories, incuding several from the perspective of her younger self. There is a lot of gentle humour in both these books. They would make great stocking fillers.
