Cinnamon
Backhousia myrtifolia is a small rainforest tree which grows in eastern NSW and Queensland. It has the common names Cinnamon Myrtle and Grey Myrtle. It is a member of the Myrtaceae plant family, along with the gum trees and bottlebrushes.
This one is growing nearby in regenerating bushland which a neighbour, with support of the shire council, has established.
The name Backhousia is in honour of English botanist, Quaker missionary and prison reformer James Backhouse who worked in Australia in the 1830s. He sent many plant specimens to the UK.
