Banker.
Came across this charmer in Gloucester today. It's an effigy of James (Jemmy/Jeremy) Wood whose family founded the Gloucester Old Bank which James headed in the early nineteenth century. His great claim to fame was his meanness, leaving a fortune of close to a million pounds, and for allegedly being the inspiration for Dickens' miser, Scrooge. The bank was, in due course, bought out by Lloyds Bank in 1897...............
