Doll Festival
I enjoyed the Tokyo exhibition at Oxford’s outstanding Ashmolean Museum. There were interesting angles on the city, which I’ve only visited once, twenty years ago. I also appreciated being momentarily free of childcare commitments and Covid restrictions!
This triptych by Shinohara Ushio caught my eye. I love how the bold colours and pop art style also have a distinctly Japanese feel.
Apparently the silhouettes are kabuki actors, a parade leader, a man in a Western hat, and a high-ranking courtesan…
