Water Melody

Today's the day ......................... to send greetings

We had a lovely card today, all the way from Hong Kong, from our friends June and Li.  This was written on the back - apparently from the poem by Su Shi called, Water Melody.  A rough translation (provided by June) would be something like 'though a thousand miles apart, we are together (seeing) the beauty of the moon' .  Such a lovely sentiment and something to focus on in these troubled times.

We absolutely love getting Christmas cards - particularly when they mean as much as this one does - but we love the whole process of sending them too.  It can be the only contact we have with some friends who live in other parts of the country, but it is still a link with them and at the very least, a way of keeping in touch.

But I do wonder if the days of exchanging Christmas cards are numbered.  The cost of even a 2nd class stamp, never mind the actual card is getting to be prohibitive.  Who sends anything by post these days if they can possibly help it?  No, it's inevitable that it will all be done on-line in some form or other.

But it won't be the same ....................... ?!
