Life's Little Moments

Nutty

White-breasted nuthatches are another species that I can see just about any day in my garden.  Although not flashy, they are definitely cute and never fail to make me smile.  They are also typically not shy around people so getting close up shots is pretty easy.  The afternoon sun was dropping making for interesting light.  This is a male, identified by he dark blackish cap.  Females have caps that are a tiny bit lighter, more of a dark gray.

Ellen had to drive home last night as she had an early flight to the West Coast this morning; Kura and Peg stayed over.  Hubs whipped up breakfast and then the three of us settled into some serious dominoes.  Well, serious isn't probably the right adjective since our domino games are raucous affairs with a fair amount of cursing and loads of laughter.  They both left early afternoon, leaving the house feeling somewhat empty.

I have to say that Jax was great with everyone.  He was so excited yesterday afternoon that he never took a nap so around 5 he hit the sofa and went out soundly for a couple of hours.  He loved all the attention, and of course the various gifts.  He's really a very social dog, for which I am grateful.  Any pup who allows himself to be adorned with holiday antlers and surrounded by women wearing crazy head-gear is a champ, right?

Going to skip the chocolate today because there was an excess of decadence yesterday.
