First Firing Experiment
Ellen has worked in lots of materials but particularly steel. However, when the girls were wee, working with metal became a little impractical so she turned to clay (so to speak) - at least the kids could join in. So we bought a small electric kiln.
For a significant birthday, she was given some oxyacetylene equipment. The kids were grown up so it was back to steel. That, plus house moves, has meant the kiln hasn't been used for about ten years.
The electrician wired it up the other week. Ellen built a sculpture (rough and experimental) and it was fired on Sunday. The kiln behaved impeccably - taking the temp all the way up to 1100 degrees and down again; taking two days to do it.
It worked out well. Just an experiment but encouraging. Another set of possibilities emerging.
