Photo of a photo - Modesto Montoto

No, not a selfie.
I can't find the reference to confirm this but from memory I believe it was taken by Modesto Montoto, a semi-professional photographer from Villamayor, Piloña, Asturias. It shows an itinerant tinker from Asturias' impoverished rural past. Montoto died in 1950 so the photo was from before that.
I've described Montoto as semi-professional. He and his wife ran an animal-feeds and agricultural merchants business. Montoto reportedly toured Asturias on company business on a motorcycle and sidecar, his photographic equipment in the sidecar, taking photos when he could.
