Family Tradition

Today is the day my family put grave sprays on the graves of our ancestors. 
            "Ancestors"
It seems like a strange word to describe my mom and my grandparents.  It sounds too far removed  from my experience to be the right descriptive word.   
That doesn't mean it isn't the correct term, it likely means I'm somehow refusing to admit that I'm old enough to have people who could be referred to as descendants.
