Suicide Rock

Macabrely named location not far from the rock pool where I've taken so many recent photos.  And the extra is of some stairs leading up to this rescue device.  It's also oddly named as it does not look like a very good place to attempt suicide.

That said, there is a name plague beside the ring paying tribute to a fisherman who was washed off the rocks in 1979.  I believe there have been a few more since then too.  It's possibly "known as" suicide rock by the local surf and rescue squads as it is a popular rock fishing site and it's also pretty scary / risky place to be when the tide is half way in or more.

I'd never noticed it before but that's probably because it's pretty hard to get to unless the tide is out.  There are some fairly significant old concrete foundations of the rock ledge that's submerged as the tide comes in.  I'm curious as to what used to be built here.  It looks like the stairs may have come down to whatever it was.

Thankfully the ring is here rather than an empty cradle.
