A through going close.......

which I knew years ago in Perthshire as a pend, vennel or wynd.
Have also heard a close being described as a ginnel, alleyway, byway, or a thruway elsewhere in the coutry. Even Spain as a camino, sendero or callejon.
Fascinating, must get out oftener.
