Little Snake
I'm not very observant. I would never have spotted this little guy on my own - so many thanks to the kind gentleman who pointed him out to me.
No thicker than a pencil, there he lay coiled up among the pebbles and leaf detritus, sunning himself. He blended in perfectly. And once I'd seen one little snake, there was another, and another. Lots in fact. So glad I'd brought the macro lens!
This is a harmless garter snake. At least I hope so - we were nose to lens, I don't want to find out that it's a baby copperhead.
