Evening Woods
Any patch of sunlight in a wood will show you something about the sun which you could never get from reading books on astronomy. These pure and spontaneous pleasures are 'patches of Godlight' in the woods of our experience.
(C.S. Lewis)
Oh, this is so true! I've had people tell me they want to believe in God, but they need more evidence. For me, when it boils down to it, it isn't about arguments in theology books or even what it says in the Bible (although both are important to me) that are the reason for my belief. It is basking in those patches of 'Godlight' - those moments that can't be expressed or explained - that are the foundation of my faith.
This particular Wild Wood is part of Hedleyhope Fell Nature Reserve near Tow Law. I had a wonderful walk in the snow watching the sun setting, long after my camera batteries had died!
