The mid-level

Another busy busy day. Although officially it's a half day, and I did utilise that to come down to the city for the weekend, I was working one way or another until after 1600. A number of very satisfying aspects to the work today.

Planned a jog through some of the streets on the western slopes of the Waitakere Range, and it was very enjoyable. Much of the original rain forest remains around here, with medium to large Kauri, Rimu and other native trees.

My photo is of the mid-level growth between houses built without removing the big trees. The tree ferns (Ponga) provide cover for the lower level shrubs and ferns. And also for the replacement forest giants. Most will struggle, but every now and then one survives and grows tall.
