The race of the Bogman
This is a traditional event that takes place every easter between two local villages. It dates back to an old contract in 1896. A local farmer issued a contract for drilling and ploughing, but the drilling team got drunk so he sacked the lot of them and employed a new team. There were two villages that went for the contact, only one would get it.
There is one team from each village. A 'bogman' is selected from each village and a fight breaks out to grab the contract. Both teams are then driven a mile away and have to make there way back over the fields, whilst fighting all the way back for the contract.
The winner is the first village back to the local pub with the contact. Back in the day, that village would then go on to work for the farmer.
I am still not quite sure who the bogman is though!
