Frame at Last

Starts quietly; two slices of toast, Orkney dairy butter and a pot of tea.  I turn my back for five minutes and then, mid-morning, a guitarist, a saxophonist and an accordion player appeared in the kitchen – all professionals at that.  I searched the back room in case Melvyn Bragg was about to re-start his ‘South Bank Specials’ again.  Would it have been in our time ?

Karen had come with a rough draught for the window design for a Stromness Christmas window, Erik spoke about working in a Meldrum farm dairy (in between gigs) and Davie spoke about an Orkney Jazz Festival.  CMC set up the conveyor belt to serve her home bakes and I took out a bottle.  Later Davie and I reminisced about Jon Hiseman but we didn’t mention his wife’s Paraphernalia.  We listened to the Necks and Uncle Frank Z’s Inca Roads from One Size Fits All.  Everyone departed about 1.00pm and then the Heritage Officer for the Hoy Kirk arrived to talk about next year’s budgets and Mrs Heddle’s washing in Stromness.   An outside party provided updates on Edinburgh tags.  Seeking clarity ?  Look elsewhere.

In other news – the coalman didn’t arrive.
